La Venta Archaeological Site from Palenque

Visit Parque-Museo La Venta, an open-air park and museum that features 36 megalithic stone structures surrounded by a zoo. Observe native animals, such as spider monkey and jaguars, and take a walking tour with your guide to see Olmec remnants from La Venta archaeological site. You will be picked up at your hotel in Palenque in the morning and taken to Villahermosa, the capital of the state of Tabasco. A guide accompanies you on a visit to Parque-Museo La Venta (admission fee included).

While you tour the grounds, learn about La Venta archaeological site, which was formerly located on an island in a swamp near the Gulf of Mexico. Due to the construction of an oil refinery and an airport, large parts of the site were destroyed, but impressive pre-Columbian pieces found there were moved to the outdoor La Venta Park Museum established in the 1950s.

See the 36 megalithic stone structures that were transported from the archaeological ruins and erected here in the park in Villahermosa. After a look at the animals in the zoo and a walking tour of the historical center, you will be taken back to your hotel in Palenque.
