It is primarily an exploration trip of the stone-built village of Pano Lefkara (a production center of the famed lace) and of Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia neolithic settlement. We normally also do birdwatching at one of three wetlands near Larnaca (Larnaka). Depending on travellers’ preferences and time availability, there may be possibilities to do a walk by Lefkara manmade lake, visit other attractions on the way (depending on pickup location - eg Panagia Angeloktisti church in Kiti) and/or have a meal at a village restaurant.
Pickup time : To be agreed with the travellers. Usually it is between 08:30 and 09:30.
Pickup location : At an agreed place (eg hotel, port, etc) usually in Larnaca (Larnaka), Nicosia or Limassol (and even in Agia Napa, Protaras, Paphos). Naturally due to the significant distance, there is considerable time to be spent in the car when the trip starts in Agia Napa, Protaras or Paphos.
Pano Lefkara stone-built (Lefkara lace producing) village and Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia Neolithic settlement are the two basic attractions of this trip (others could include Panagia Angeloktisti church or Kamares Aqueduct). Birdwatching at one of the wetlands near Larnaca (eg Larnaca Salt Lake, Oroklini lake) is also highly recommended.
Visiting Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia neolithic site is highly recommended, especially because its convenient geographic location, allows combos with exploration of other worthy attractions nearby.
Stone-built Pano Lefkara acquired considerable wealth in the past century through production and trade of the famed Lefkaritika lace. As per local tradition, Leonardo da Vinci visited the village, loved and bought Lefkaritika lace. Besides meandering through the maze of the village, the village's central church is worth a visit ( according to local tradition it houses a piece from the Holly Cross).
For those into birdwatching, we highly recommend to include a visit to one of three wetlands near Larnaca, as they host thousands of birds and tens of bird species (especially during the annual migration in spring but also in autumn). Thousands of flamingos find refuge during the cold months of the year here. The trip is customisable.
Besides meandering inside Pano Lefkara village, and subject to time availability, travellers could do a linear walk on the dirt road around Lefkara manmade lake (one of the most beautiful manmade wetlands in Cyprus, having steep hills around it).
