You will be picked up from your hotel within the Lucknow city center in an air-conditioned vehicle and driven to the starting point for your exclusively curated Lucknow Mutiny tour.
Lucknow is located to the west of river Gomti, 42 miles east of Cawnpore and was the capital of the province of Oudh. It was annexed by the British East India Company in 1856, and this became the root cause of the mutiny. Oudh had been the base of the company’s infantry. Its population was armed, militarized and it provided soldiers for more than just British interests. The Nawab (prince of this region) was deposed by the British and his extensive court and army had been disbanded. Skilled fighters lost their employment and turned against the British. You will visit sites where events took place in 1857: the Alambagh, Dilkusha, La Martiniere, Sikanderbagh, Shahnajaf, Moti Mahal, Residency, Musa Bagh & Old British Cantonment. During the drive, you will receive Mutiny related reference material (hand-outs, maps and pictures) to help you better understand the important events having taken place here during this time in history.
There will be lunch included at a local restaurant (Beverage Excluded).
Upon conclusion of the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel in Lucknow.
