Marathon Private Tour

Marathon is a town in Greece and the site of the battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, in which the heavily outnumbered Athenian army defeated the Persians. Legend has it that Pheidippides, a Greek herald at the battle, was sent running from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory, which is how the marathon running race was conceived in modern times.

We will start our tour from Athens by visiting the 1st modern Olympic stadium where the MARATHON run ends. The MARATHON run is well known all around the world thanks to Pheidippides, the messenger.

The marathon is a long-distance running race with an official distance of 42.2 kilometers (26.2 miles) The event was instituted in commemoration of the fabled run of the Greek soldier Pheidippides, a messenger from the Battle of Marathon to Athens, who reported the victory by the Greek NENICICAMEN (WE WON) that Greeks had against the Persians with their king of Persia Darrius. We will continue our drive to get to the archaeological site of MARATHON where we will see the burial mound of the 192 Athenian heroes who died during the battle of Marathon in 490 BC, where the heavily armed Athenian army defeated the Persians

Stop At: Marathon Run Museum, Marathonos Ave. & 25th of March str, Marathon 190 07 Greece

At last we will visit the archaeological museum of Marathon. Onwards we will make either a coffee stop or lunch at the sea side town of Marathon. This is the end of our Marathon tour and it’s time to return to Athens.
