You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Laxmi Narayan Temple, also known as Birla Mandir. This was the first in a series of temples built across India by the Birla family, a well known industrialist family of India. The temple was inaugurated in 1938 by Mahatma Gandhi on the condition that people from all walks of life be allowed to enter the temple. If you are lucky, you may also see the morning Aarti (prayer) ceremony there.
Next visit a Sikh Temple, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, situated close by in Connaught Place, the shopping district of New Delhi. The golden dome and flagpole of the Gurdwara are a major landmark of Delhi. The water tank in the Gurdwara is considered to have healing powers. Every day thousands of people are provided free meals from the large kitchen of the Gurdwara.
After the visit to the Gurdwara, drive over to India Gate, a majestic War Memorial that was built in honor of the 70 000 soldiers of the British Indian army who lost their lives in the First World War. Continue your drive up the stately avenue of Raj Path that is flanked by offices of the Government of India towards one end. As you drive further you will go past the imposing Presidential Palace with its huge gardens. It is one of the largest residences of a Head of State in the world. End your tour of Lutyens’ Delhi at the circular colonnaded building of the Parliament House.
At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at your hotel.
