My Son was once the spiritual heart of the Kingdom of Champa peoples who occupied what is now the central area of Vietnam for over a thousand years. Shiva was the central figure of worship and his images are common in what remains of the Cham monuments. My Son is situated in an attractive valley, well away from any other buildings in a clearing surrounded by tropical jungle. The peaceful surroundings give you a feeling of stepping back to the time when then area was a major religious complex and even in their current state, the towers are impressive, and the scale of building makes its religious significance obvious.
