Stop At: Asa Wright Nature Centre, Blanchisseuse Rd Arima Trinidad
A must for the nature lover and bird enthusiast, this tour provides an excellent introduction to Trinidad’s wildlife. Visiting the world-famous Asa Wright Nature Centre, you'll take a walk through the rainforest to watch birds and other wildlife at close range.
The town of Arima in the East of Trinidad is the gateway into the lush rainforest, the drive will lead us along a narrow road through the mountains during which guests will be able to see interesting plants and fruit trees.
The Asa Wright Nature Centre is a bird sanctuary and study centre set in 200 acres of the thickly forested Arima Valley. We visit the old plantation house with its large open verandah from which you can view an incredible amount of different species of tropical birds from the same location. Hummingbirds feed from the containers hanging right in front of you, staying long enough for you to take some fantastic photographs. Large tegu lizard and guinea pig-like agouti search for scraps below the bird feeders.
There is a guided walk through the forest where you'll learn about the uses of many different medicinal herbs, the history of the Asa Wright Centre, the oilbirds that live in an on-site cave, and fascinating birds like the bearded bell and the dancing manakin birds.
