Visit three towns outside of the city of Oaxaca and discover the craft makers Oaxaca is famous for! This half-day trip takes you by coach to

San Bartolo Coyotepec,

Santo Tomás Jalieza and

San Martin Tilcajete  with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. You’ll learn about the history of each town in Oaxaca’s Central Valley as you get out to explore on foot, and meet the artisans who make the beautiful ceramics, belts, textiles, wood carvings  and other handicrafts famous in the region.

When your guide picks you up from your hotel 15 minutes prior 10am, board the comfortable vehicule to

San Bartolo Coyotepec, located just 20 minutes south of Oaxaca. Renowned for the beautiful black pottery produced by town artisans, Coyotepec features several dozen workshops where you can learn about these unique

black pottery  artesanies made locally since pre-Columbian times.

Re-board the vehicule and drive another 20 minutes south to

Santo Tomás Jalieza, whose artisans are famous for using an

antique technique  for making textiles , which truthly are embellished works. Your guide will take your group to a market in the center of this quiet village, where you can find exquisitely woven

cotton goods made on back-strap looms. Take a look around and browse for colorful embroidered belts as well as shawls, blouses, place mats and handbags.

Your last stop is to the nearby town of

San Martin Tilcajete, a town known for the incredible creativity and  hand work to make

Alebrijes, famous

wood carvings made with the Coopal tree, decorated with natural and acrilic paint. See how this artisans use their imagination and crativity to make this magical creatures with their bare hands.
