Pisa was born as an Etruscan port, around the middle of the 6th century. Etruscans called the city Pise and the economy of the country through the production arts and crafts. Arno and the sea. The Cathedral Square ("Cathedral Square"), known as the Square of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli). It was created by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, from the "Meadow of Miracles", because of the beauty of the marble monuments, which looms within the surrounding green garden.
The square lies at the Northern area of the city, that once was a graveyard and the place of an Early Christian cathedral. Pisa Cathedral is not in the old town.
The Cathedral was the first to be built, followed by the construction of the Baptistery and the Leaning Tower. Two sides of the square (back to 1154).
