In just an hour’s driving distance from Ulaanbaatar, there lies the Terelj National Park where the most easily accessible part of the nearly 2 Million hectare Khan Khenty strictly protected area is located. Terelj, meaning rhododendron, is just a tiny but nevertheless a spectacular part of it and a fantastic venue for hiking and horseback riding.
Proximity to the capital makes Terelj National Park a popular destination for single day tours. You will find yourself in a wide mountain basin dotted with rock formations of weird shapes, quite often named after things they resemble. Upon arrival, you will hike in the park, visit a charming Buddhist temple on a cliff top, and optionally take a short horseback riding tour. Lunch will be served in a local holiday resort with some fantastic rock formations in the backdrop. Return to Ulaanbaatar in late afternoon and be dropped off at your hotel where this tour concludes.
