Traveling across the mountains, you will reach your first stop, Yeliu Geological Park, a geological park by the sea with strange rock formations sculpted by the Pacific Ocean through the centuries. After walking amongst this lunar landscape, you will be driven to the mountains, where you will visit Jinguashi, an old mining village built by the Japanese during their occupation of Taiwan. You will learn about the life of the mine workers, and their Japanese managers who settled in this area, including a visit to an old traditional Japanese house and the ruins of a Japanese shrine with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. On your way to Jiufen, you will visit a beautiful Taoist temple located in a privileged location on the mountainside with beautiful views over the Pacific.

From there, you will head to Jiufen, a unique mountain village with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. You will walk through Jiufen's narrow alleys and visit its endless street market, where you will enjoy some local delicacies - including the popular pineapple cake. You will explore the mining past and the artistic present of this charming village, bathed by the light of hundreds of red lanterns, which are told to have inspired Hayao Miyazaki himself to create the world of Spirited Away. You will end the day by enjoying the breathtaking views of Taiwan’s northern coast at sunset and sipping tea in one of the traditional tea houses tucked away in the alleys of Jiufen. After finishing this special trip to the past, you will be driven back to your hotel in Taipei.
