Begin the tour around 8:30am with pick up at your hotel from a private guide. Head first to Fátima, approximately one hour away, a village that became famous after sightings of the Virgin Mary appeared here. Pay visits to both the old and new sanctuaries, where 250,000 people or more pray during candle processions on May 13th and October 13th.
Next, head to the Monastery of Batalha, one of the best examples of the flamboyant Gothic architecture in Portugal. Built as a gift for the victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota, which took place nearby, the monastery played an important role in Portuguese history. Visit the battle grounds before continuing on. In Nazare, head to the Sanctuary of Nazaré, perched at the top of a cliff and offering amazing views of the village below and of the giant waves site. For lunch, venture out on your own to one of many amazing local seafood restaurants.
After lunch, head to Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval village. There, enjoy a sample of Ginginha, a famous cherry liquor, from a chocolate cup. Then stroll through the village to see its magnificent castle and perhaps shop for souvenirs before heading back to Lisbon. Your guide will drop you off at your Lisbon hotel by 17:30.
