Begin the day with pickup at your hotel by a private guide. Head off to the north-western coast towards Nazaré, a small fishing village and world-famous surfing location. This private tour can be customized to suit your preferences and focus on the things that interest you most.
After about 1 hour and 15 minutes driving through the Portuguese countryside, arrive in Nazaré. Take a quick tour of the village, then head to the wave-watching site to take in the strength and beauty of the coast. If open, pay a visit to Forte Sao Miguel Arcanjo (entrance included), one of the best ways to experience the waves without having to suit up and swim.
For lunch, head to one of the many nearby seafood restaurants. One option is the restaurant where Garrett McNamara, a legendary surfer, always eats when he’s in town. Then, depending on the tides, spend some more time watching the waves or return to Lisbon with the possibility of visiting some nearby small towns, if time allows it. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel at around 17.30.
Please note: Waves and/or surfers may not be seen depending on the date selected. This tour is provided all year due to the history and attractions that may be visited on site but the big-wave season is generally from October to March, a period which coincides with the waiting period for the World Surf League Big Wave Challenge, but it is impossible to determine with more than a few days' notice if there will be big waves and therefore surfers in the water and specially in the summer most probably there won't. On those days you can complement your tour with other visits to some history packed sites in the region which we will be happy to provide.
