Ria Formosa, with its 60km extension along the Algarve’s East Coast, is a habitat to a great diversity of fauna and flora. Enjoy a little train ride and visit Barril’s Almadraba tuna fish, installed between 1841 and 1966. We head to Tavira, where you can explore the historical centre, the architecture of the houses and the unique “scissors roofs”. Free time for lunch –not included. We continue to Cacela Velha where we stop for a panoramic view over Ria Formosa. We finish in Faro, capital of the Algarve, a city conquered by D. Afonso III, King of Portugal in the 13th century. In the old town, we stop for a brief Fado Session, the Portuguese National song and Porto wine tasting.

Stop At: Praia do Barril, Aldeamento Pedras Del Rei Santa Luzia, Tavira 8800-531 Portugal

On a pleasant walk or on a little train, we visit Barril’s Almadraba tuna fish installed on the beach of Barril between 1841 and 1966. We can find part of this unique heritage, like the housing structures, the camp, as well as, a significant set with about 250 large anchors placed in the sand-dune spit.

We continue to the charming city of Tavira. The town maintained over the centuries the beautiful architecture of its houses and the unique “scissors roofs”. The narrow winding streets lead us to small squares of flowery gardens, the Roman Bridge over the river, the numerous churches, the municipal museum, the Gallery Palace and on the top of a small hill, the Castle.

Towards West, we reach the capital of the Algarve – Faro. We visit the medieval walls, the old city and the streets conquered to the Muslims by D. Afonso III, King of Portugal in 13th century. In the old town we invite you for a brief Fado Session, the Portuguese National song, considered Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and a Porto wine tasting.
