Trinity of the Mountains church that was under the patronage of the king of France, with the Spanish square below. The long, triangular Spanish square is named after the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.

This massive square was laid out in 1538 to provide a grandiose entrance to Rome. It has been remodeled several times, most recently by Giuseppe Valadier in 1823. In the center, the 36m-high obelisk was brought by Augustus from ancient Egypt; it originally stood in the Circus Maximus.

The Pantheon is the best ancient building in Rome and another must-see touristic attraction to add to your list! In the Pantheon, you can also see the tombs of Raphael (the famous artist) and Victor Emmanuel II (1st king of Italy).
