Self Drive Experience in Atacama Desert - 5 Days

Officially the driest desert on the planet, Atacama is an all year-round destination. Summer days definitely get sizzling hot whilst nights keep a constant low temperature due to the altitudes. The Altiplanic winter consists of afternoon downpours with plenty of electrical storms. Sometimes heavy rains in January and February and snow fall during July and August.

REQUIREMENTS

Meet the minimum age 25 years old

A valid driver’s license and passport for each driver. (An international permit is not necessary to drive in Chile)

A major credit card in the name of the renter (MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club or American Express)

Itinerary

Day 1: Calama - San Pedro de Atacama - Moon and Death Valley (Approx. 120 km)

Stop At: Atacama Dessert, Chile
Pick up your rental car at Calama Airport or downtown rental office. In the evening you should not miss a visit to the Moon Valley.

Overnight in San Pedro de Atacama.

Duration: 4 hours

Day 2: Half Day Salar de Atacama - Half Day Puritama Hot Springs (Approx. 162 km)

Stop At: Salar de Atacama, Antofagasta Chile
Today we recommend visiting the Atacama Salt Lake. In the afternoon you may relax at Puritama Hot Springs, a set of volcanic hot springs located 38 km north of San Pedro.
