Driving through a wast of black sand, lava and moss, with mountains and glaciers on one hand and the sea in the distance on the other. You drive for about 1½ to 2 hours east from Vík and you will have Jökulsárlón, the Glacier Lagoon, in about 45 minute drive further east. There you will find yourself located at Skaftafell, Vantajökull National Park. At our private airport you will meet your pilot prior to your flight, who will explain the flight plan.
At the beginning of your flight, your pilot will fly you over the colorful and unique Kjós area, located in the Morsárdalur glacier valley. As you make your way to Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, which resembles to foreign mountains such as Mount Everest, but on a much smaller scale. On your way back over Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Iceland, your pilot will fly you over Esjufjöll, mountains which stand up out of the glacier, and you might be lucky with a good camera when you fly over Jökulsárlón, the glacier lagoon. The big icebergs falling from Vatnajökull, resting in the lagoon before making their way under the main road towards the sea.
As you land back in Skaftafell, you can take time to chat with your pilot about the route you flew and the sights you saw.
