Itinerary
Start at 08:00 am, Pick up from your hotel. Climb with a professional instructor to the top of Cerro Toco, located at 5600 m altitude. Recommended for those who want to ascend their 1st summit.
Cerro Toco is an ancient volcano, now asleep like other volcanoes in the area. It is one of the most characteristic ascents of the area, being the closest to San Pedro de Atacama, just 60 kilometers away, and being easily accessible.
We will leave from San Pedro de Atacama by car until we reach an old sulfur boat, on a trip of 1 hour and a half. Once there, at 5,000 m altitude, we will begin our ascent that will take between 2 and 3 hours, and that will take us to the top of the hill, at 5,600 m altitude. During most of the year, it is possible to see penitents during the ascent, large icy waters that are generated naturally as a result of sublimation. Once up, we will enjoy the spectacular view towards the other peaks of the high plateau. Our descent will take approximately 1 hour, then take the vehicle that will take us back to San Pedro de Atacama.
