  • Ski or Snowboard a Active Volcano (Mount Ruapehu), New Zealand

A quick word about the place...
Mount Ruapehu, or just Ruapehu, is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. It is 23 kilometres northeast of Ohakune and 40 kilometres southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupo, within Tongariro National Park. The North Island's major skifields and only glaciers are on its slopes. Ruapehu has two commercial ski fields, Whakapapa on the northern side and Turoa on the southern slope. They are the two largest ski fields in New Zealand, with Whakapapa the larger. The private Tukino field is on the east of the mountain. The season is generally from June to October but depends on snow and weather conditions. Both ski fields are accessible by car and chairlifts, with beginners' to advanced skiing slopes. Limited accommodation and refreshments are available at Top o' the Bruce (the car park at the top of Bruce Road) and at the entry to Whakapapa, and elsewhere on the mountain...

  • Go Heli-Skiing/Boarding in Chile

A quick word about the place...
Looking to ski all year? It’s entirely possible especially with destinations like Chile in the southern hemisphere. Just imagine spending time during June through October shredding through pristine powder in the Andes Mountains. Getting there is half the fun when you board a helicopter and get dropped off with a guide into thousands of vertical feet of untouched champagne powder. The scenery seen skiing or boarding through the mountains in Chile may make you feel like your in the Alps, but the overall experience is unlike other heli-skiing or heli-boarding trip offered around the globe. Plenty of companies in Santiago, Chile offer packages that include accommodations. There are also a few other destinations in Chile closer to the border of Argentina offering heli-skiing adventures. Packages are typically for three days to a week and other activities are offered, as well. Even if you’re not an expert skier or...
