Black Joe Mine was a manganese mine located east of Hwy 93 in Arizona. Look for the paved turnoff (Black Joe Mine Road) from Hwy 93 and follow it to the end of the road. A trailhead near the end of the road will lead you to the mine site.
At 1298 feet in elevation, it's a long, steep climb that rewards visitors with oak woodlands and great views (weather permitting) of Santa Rosa, San Miguel, Santa Cruz, and the mainland. Visitors may make this a loop hike by including the Cherry Canyon trail and Telephone and Soledad roads.

Take Cemetery Road till you get to the BP road. The first turn off is for the south side and closest walk to the Fissures, but should be done in 4WD. Next turn It's mostly washboard for several miles and ends up on the east side where there is a parking area.
