Take a short walk through the forest to Kaiate Falls (Te Rerekawau Falls) near Tauranga.
It takes 5-10 minutes to get to the first waterfalls. It's a very nice place to go for a picnic and a swim.
To reach Kai Bae Waterfall you have to walk east from Kai Bae Hut Resort. There will be waterfall signs by the end of the path. The trail goes along the river for around 15 minutes before you reach the waterfall. It isn't touristic so there's a good chance you'll be on your own!
