Box Canyon historical site is located along Highway S-2 in Anza Borrego Desert State Park, approximately 8.7 miles south of Highway 78 (Scissors Crossing). Here the Battalion cut a road into the rocky side of a canyon which was otherwise impassable to wagons. Remnants of the road cut into the rock wall are still visible.
