Beautiful place to visit and skip all the crowds. Wonderful hikes with very little crowds. Great campsite with nice spots, clean showers and lots of space.
This park was kind of off the main road place. It was a very nice park but very quiet. The campground was wonderful with paved pads, water, and electric. It seems to me the park service overestimated the usage it would get. There are large parking lots with not a single car in it. There is a lot of unused space. There is a very nice pool which is a separate charge. Be sure to take
in the drive and hike to the twin arches. It is a steep drive in from either east or west but the east side has major hair pin turns. It is rather tense for large truck and trailers as ours was. It was a beautiful natural area.
Great place to go experience nature and beauty in S.E.T.X (South East Texas) they also have a small museum in the Visitor Center. Great Trails with plenty of rest stops with benches and clean restrooms on site.
If you plan to do the Black Heritage Trail without a tour (only option in winter), stop at a visitor center first for a map with pictures so you know exactly which buildings to look for!
It began to rain so we were not able to spend much time. Found a nearby geocache and continued on our trip home. Some interesting info and some grave markers dating back to the 1800's
This is a very humbling place. I was angry and happy at the same time. Such courage, determination and will to fight for the right thing. Freedom AND equality - still a long road to take, and each of us can play a vital part to achieve, and each should, starting with me.
