Really enjoyed visiting this place. Loved the history at Grand Portage National Monument. Really had a good experience at Grand Portage National Monument.
GTNP is a beautiful location full of wildlife, majestic views, and outdoors activities! There are things for history buffs, outdoors enthusiasts, fishers, photographers, kids, lake people, and hikers. Be sure to add this beautiful park to your bucket list!
We drove right by it. It’s not clearly marked, but it’s at the Oregon trail site. Nothing there but a pamphlet. You can NOT go to the site. There is absolutely nothing to see! They have a small visitor center 15 minutes away in the town. A few skulls and the horse skeleton.
The visitor center is small but the staff is very knowledgeable about the site. Due to concerns with earth movement, you can’t see the actual dig site. The trails are well marked and have information signs throughout the trail. You can see the wagon wheel ruts from the original Oregon trail.
We were passing through KC and made the stop here. Really enjoyed the tour and learning about President Truman and family. Great man at the right time.
