As a volunteer at this park I find this place as a historic Jacksonville Gem! This place has a rich history and an amazing story to tell! However I’m slightly biased! Largest complaint is the dirt road leading up to the entrance! Great Jr. Ranger Program here as well!
Views of the sunset were amazing from the campground, it was definitely worth the drive up to see all the beautiful views. The mule deer were very friendly… I think they were more curious than anything else.
If you are going to do this park take a guided tour. We had the BEST tour guide. She really made you feel like you were living the experience. My husband and I have done more than 100 National Parks and this one is still in my top 10.
This visit is interesting to go to, but not a bucket list location. If in Little Rock, take a few minutes to go there and to the museum. School is still in use so that makes it odd to go there. But great to take the kids so that they can learn that things weren’t always as good as they are today.
